Gift Certificates for the Holidays Last minute holiday shopping for a friend or relative who is an avid gardener can be traumatic for you and if you choose the "wrong gift" traumatic for them. Why not purchase a John Shelley's Garden Center gift certificate and let your special someone choose their own "gift". Lifetime Quality Gardening Tools Hardly a day goes by without someone purchasing one of our special stainless steel English, Swiss or American Gardening Tools. Here at John Shelley's Garden Center we don't carry the average breakable junk that you'd find at the mass merchandisers or hardware stores locally. (These stores count on you breaking their tools so that they can sell you more of the same type; that's how they stay in business with the tool manufacturers!). Our tools are made of the finest materials, assembled in a way as to prohibit breakage, and will last beyond our lifetime. Guaranteed. It's nice to have to purchase a tool only once, instead of every spring or summer because the last one bent or broke. And to be able to pass it down to your children as a family heirloom - as in the case of the stainless tools - is a special reason unto itself. Why not invest in quality? Exactly why we carry only those brands such as Latshaw's Estate and Chelsea Collections, Sheffield Pride, Felco, Yankee Craftsman and Garden Tools of Maine. Ask to see this line-up when you visit. After all, buying something once that lasts a lifetime is a sign of Yankee wisdom and practicality, not self-indulgence. What a great holiday gift for the gardener on your list! Easy Care Houseplants For Winter Spider Plants, Wandering Jew, Croton, Dracaena, Ficus, Dieffenbachia several varieties of ferns and ivy, many specimens of Cactus and Succulents require minimal care over the winter and reward you with color and their ability to freshen and clean the air. Our main greenhouse is brimming with these and many other varieties of foliage to brighten your home during the drab days of winter. A few basic rules about houseplants during winter: do not transplant, since plants are semi-dormant and little root growth occurs. Wait until spring to re-pot, or do it early in the fall. Cut water and fertilizers by 2/3, again because the plants are semi-dormant. Very little uptake by roots will occur in a semi-dormant plant, and the fertilizers can burn foliage if not digested. |
