Roses - Summer Care and Enjoyment

This year, we'll be carrying both Star Roses and Jackson & Perkins, potted in 1-gal and 2-gal take home containers. They'll be in tight bud when you see them in May, so plant them quickly and stand back and enjoy. Best place to plant is on the west side garden, where the receive the heat and sun they crave. And water the plant at ground level, not the plant's leaves; this eliminates black spot, mildew and all the other nasty diseases that gardeners have complained about for years, and has even caused many to quit growing roses. Just ask, we'll help design the perfect rose garden that will provide enjoyment for many years to come.

Getting It All Ready For Spring. Again.

Just when it seems that the snow and blustery winds will never leave, Spring arrives quietly and unobtrusively. Remember last frost date around here is April 20th. So be very careful about setting out annuals, they could get hit with a freak, late frost. Time now to do certain things: deadhead grasses and perennials (careful not to cut-off any new green shoots); carefully prune-back shrubs and trees and rake up debris from winter damage; make a paper plan of what new plants will go where (remember final size and shape for 5-10 years is crucial); Holly-Tone all acid-loving plants (No Miracle- Gro junk); use timed- release Osmocote 13-13-13 all through the garden for a 6- 8 month feeding. And finally, order-in Premium Dark Bark Mulch to keep moisture in the soil for the plants' root systems health. Then get the lawn chairs out, make some lemonade and relax.

Windowsill Container Herb Gardens Become Spring & Summer Outdoor Herb Gardens.

Everyone who cooks loves their very own herb garden just outside the kitchen. But for those who don't have the room, a container herb garden could be the answer. And if space is no problem, selecting the right combination and number is an enjoyable task, as is their propagation. Any Garden Center Staffer can help you choose, and plant a special container for your own. Also, plan to be at our "Herb Workshop" on Sat., June 00th and another Workshop, as yet unscheduled, both days from 10am- Noon to learn more about this increasingly popular way to enjoy herbs all year long

Wildflower Gardens & Meadows Begin This Spring or Fall!

If you did start your very own Wildflower Meadow or Field last fall, congratulations! You're in a very select group of Gardeners that have that exclusive badge. So why not start your own wildflower meadow, border or garden right off this Spring with our special brand and mix of 100% Bloomcoat or Loft's 100% Wildflower Seeds that we use along Pennsylvania roads, on customers' properties or in our own 2 acre wildflower meadow. You should see this in bloom as you come up our driveway on the left side all through the Spring, Summer and Fall! Simply ask at the Front Desk or stop at the Wildflower Display in the Main Showroom; we can show you how to do it, or do it for you quickly. Either way, you get the prestige and attention that having a Wildflower Meadow, Field or Border commands.
