Visiting Us?

One of the world's most unique and unusual Garden Center & Nurseries, nestled in the lush farmland countryside of Southern York County, Pennsylvania, John Shelley's Garden Center & Nursery, is now in its 18th year of operation, has offerings not found anywhere else in North America. We are routinely sought-out by plant collectors, purists, enthusiasts and horticulturalists, for our extensive collections of rare, unusual and hard-to-find plant material — 500+ varieties of Japanese Maples, 900+ cultivars of Conifers, and whole collections of Alpine Conifers & Perennials, Viburnums, Lilacs, Rhododendrons & Azaleas, and many other cultivars of plants not found anywhere else.
You're most welcome to visit us, at your convenience; our current hours are posted below. If you have a list of special plant material that you want to purchase, it would be a good idea to either FAX — 717.246.2170 — or email us, well ahead of time. We can then provide availability and pricing, prior to your arrival.
It's also a good idea to email or call ahead about our Spring-Summer-Fall Hours. We do occasionally close earlier than 5pm, on stormy, rainy days. Rather than drive a long distance just to be disappointed because we've closed early, please let us know that you're coming to visit, and we'll be sure to stay open, with appropriate GC&N Staff to help you make the right decision, on the right plant, the first time.
For those wanting to drive and visit the Garden Center & Nursery, we've included some easy-to-follow directions, a map and our hours of operation. It's a big place — 20 acres — so plan to spend some serious time with our rare, unusual and hard-to-find plant material. There are Numerous Excellent Restaurants, nearby, so great food and refreshing libation are readily-at-hand during your visit. If you're coming for an extended stay, there are excellent hotels and motels just several miles away, near I-83, in both Shrewsbury and in York. Our Staff Landscape Designer, Staff Horticulturalist and myself, are available, by appointment, to help you with your selections, during normal business hours. Please note that we are now Closed on Sundays, after 18 years of operation.
Directions:
From the north, take I-83 south to Exit 4 (old Exit 1), Shrewsbury. At the bottom of the off-ramp, turn left at the stop sign on to SR Rt 851 east and go 5 miles to Stewartstown. At the first stop sign, turn left on to SR Rt 24 north, and go approximately 5 miles. We're on the right side.
