Trough Gardens Since we introduced Trough Gardens to this York-Lancaster (PA) and Baltimore-Harford (MD) Region, in the 1995 York Flower Show and were awarded 1st Place — Outstanding Display, they've become part of the "local gardening scene". It has taken 13 years to achieve perfection with these miniature gardens: creating a consistent formula from 100% Portland Cement, stone dust and peat moss; making professional molds that replicate hand-hewn water troughs; casting many trial troughs to achieve the proper look of an old stone trough; experimenting with drainage and hardiness; acquiring the proper types of miniature plants from all over the world that will prosper and reward their owners. We continue to offer them to you from a special mountain in Oregon, for your decks, patios and gardens, as we have since 1995. Over 20 new varieties of perennials are now available to you. Combined with our current 25 cultivars of rare and unusual miniature conifers, Alpine Trough Gardens, Rockeries and Scree Gardens are now an easy reality for anyone. Another of the many firsts by this Garden Center & Nursery. Other expert gardeners will marvel at your skill in acquiring and growing these rare gems. Their inherent beauty and diversity will stun everyone who sees them in your garden. They're so spectacular and unusual. Now you can have instant effect and immediate gratification, in a truly unusual, original Trough Garden. Simply buy the individual pieces, design the tiny landscape and install them yourself according to established cultural practices, or purchase an already assembled micro-landscape just looking for a permanent home on your deck, patio or pool area. We also design and install special custom Troughs for connoisseurs and serious collectors. All of the miniature conifers and deciduous plants we sell are 2-to-5-plus years old, and have proven to be reliably-hardy into USDA Zone 5, so there's no problem growing them in this Mid-Atlantic Region. Here are some Trough Gardens, both planted and unplanted, as well as some Alpine Perennials & Conifers, in our Western Lath House area, adjacent to the Main Retail Building: This Trough has been in front of the Main Retail Building for 9-10 years, and was just recently replanted with new selections.
