All Workshops start at 10:00 AM and end at 12:00 Noon, except where noted on above Schedule, or if Workshop Instructor decides to continue beyond that point. Rain-outs will be moved to an indoors location if possible, or rescheduled promptly.

1998 Bonsai Styling & Design Workshops

With Accompanying Discussion Topics

For 1998, these Bonsai Styling and Design Workshops have been scheduled with Bonsai Master Jane Black. A discussion on a related or seasonal Bonsai topic accompanies each Workshop session.

Introduction To Indoor Bonsai - Sat, April 4

Students will be taught design elements, care of indoor Bonsai, wiring, and potting procedures for Bonsai. Plant material for indoor use will be reviewed. There is a limit of ten (10) students due to the hands-on aspect of the program. Up to five (5) observers will be allowed to attend. Cost is $35. Students will be supplied with tree (garden Juniper), pot, soil and handout materials. Students must bring their own wire cutters and hand pruners. Observer cost is $10. Session starts at 10am and continues until 12noon.

Open Studio Workshop - Sat, May 2

Bring your own tree to work on or select from the abundant material available at Shelley's Garden Center & Nursery. This is your chance to ask questions about design and wiring tips for trees that you've had for years or just recently purchased. There is a limit of ten (10) students. Cost is $15 per person plus any purchases from Shelley's Nursery, such as pots, tools, wire, or tree material.. Students must bring their own wire cutters and hand pruners. Up to five (5) observers will be allowed to attend. Observer cost is $10. Session starts at 9am and continues until 12noon.

Azalea Workshop - Sat, May 23

Learn the secrets of working with azaleas, one of the most beautiful flowering bonsai materials. Students will learn about design basics, pruning tips and care of azaleas.

There is a limit of ten (10) students due to the hands-on aspect of the program. Up to five (5) observers will be allowed to attend. Cost is $50. Students will be supplied with tree (Juniper), pot, soil and handout materials. Students must bring their own wire cutters and hand pruners. Observer cost is $10. Session starts at 9am and continues until 12noon.
