Boulder Steps

If you like the rugged look and substantial feel of boulders, then these Boulder Steps and Staircases should appeal to you. Maintenance? They'll never need repair, painting, staining or replacement for the next 1,000 years or so. How's that for long-lasting quality?

We have a simple, basic set of steps on display at the GC&N Complex, for you to 'try-out'. These are just outside the Main Retail Building's attached western Lath House structure, and lead down to the Aquatic Plants, Trough Gardens and parking lot areas.

Here's a set of Garden Steppers leading into the Boulder Steps, at a customer's home, from their side deck to the pool area. (Pardon my big, in-the-way finger.)

Even on a $450k Williamsburg-style home, Boulder Steps look right-at-home, easily replacing a set of brick steps with deteriorating wood framing.

On this lakeside estate, Boulder Steps lead from the flagstone patio and pool, down to the sandy beach and a 100ac lake.

These Boulder Steps lead-off of a 40°, 180ft-long driveway, directly to the estate's front shade gardens. There is also a massive 15-20ft high Boulder retaining wall, on either side of the steps, shown in the following Boulder Walls section.

Here's a simple set of Boulder Steps, leading from a rear patio, down to the expansive backyard below.

In our StoneWorks Yard Display Gardens, just below the GC&N's parking lot, we've shown how Flagstone and Brick Walkways, and Boulder Steps, can work beautifully together.

This set of single Boulder Steps gracefully-splits into a dual set of steps at the bottom of the Boulder Staircase.

Another simple set of Boulder Steps circumvents a steep drop-off from this customer's driveway to their side and back yards.

This is the largest dual-Boulder Steps Staircase we've done to date. Halfway up the picture, is a 20ft wide gravel drive, with the 2nd staircase leading-up to the horse pasture. Along the way, there are several "sitting boulders" for a brief rest. A couple of high-canopy shadetrees and 50-75 perennials would nicely-complete the picture.

A short set of steps leading up to a flagstone patio, with 2 large sitting boulders. When the BBQ, outdoor table and chairs are brought out in the Spring, it becomes a very inviting place for family and friends to gather and dine.
